A Note From The Unmarried Kate

Well, hello Queen Jean's Supreme Team Blog Viewers! I am so happy to be writing you from the couch of Abby and Bost's house in Athens. Abby just cooked a delicious breakfast of eggs and bacon. The windows are open. The dogs are sitting here staring at me. Pretty good day thus far...

So Abby asked me to write as a guest blogger, which of course, I am happy to do. I thought I would start off with talking a little bit about my journey toward joining this amazing team. When Abs first signed up, I thought to myself, "I'm your girl!" almost immediately. I am the friend who signs up for anything and everything. You want to go to a So You Think You Can Dance concert even though I don't watch the show? Sure. You want to go to an NFL game even though I don't understand football? Sure. I'm a signer-upper. Always have been, always will be.

But when I was thinking about signing up, I called my little voice of reason, also known as my little sister, Megan Kotsko. I don't mean to blame Megs for me not signing up right away, but it's basically all her fault. She said I needed to just help support Abby and give money to her, rather than trying to raise the whole $2300 all by myself. Solid advice.

But I could NOT get this walk out of my head. I carried this decision around with me literally for weeks (even though I "supposedly" already decided not to do it). Couldn't stop thinking about it. One day, I was walking around Wal-Mart, and I saw a Brita pitcher that had a pink top. Turns out it was like a breast cancer donation type thing. I walked by, and that was it. The decision was made. I was on the team.

And of course, the real reason why I'm on the team isn't because of a Brita pitcher epiphany. The real reason is because I absolutely love the Queen. From the moment I met her, I loved everything about her. I love her garage sale tenacity. If she didn't find what she needed at one place, she just moved onto the next garage sale. I love her knick knacks. Her home is decorated head-to-toe in seemingly useless objects, but each one gives that house so much wonderful personality. I love her confidence. She knew exactly who she was. She was a queen. She just had to accept it, I guess. :)

Lastly, I also love Abby. She is a great friend, which all of you know. Both her and Nancy have grown this team to a whoppin' 11 members. I am EXTREMELY honored to be one of those 11 friends. We are going to raise $25,300 in all. We are going to walk 60 miles each. And I absolutely cannot wait.

Thank you SO MUCH for donating, saying a prayer, and sending us those good vibrations. Keep 'em coming!

Love,
Kate Kotsko
